Which Should You Choose: ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini? After Reading This Comparison, You’ll Understand.

With three mainstream AI tools in front of you, many people get completely confused: which one should you pick? Don’t worry—I’ve used all three in depth for a while. Today I’ll help you sort it out from a real-world usage perspective.

Is the free version enough?

Let’s start with the question everyone cares about most: using it for free. ChatGPT’s free version can now use GPT-4o, but there’s a daily usage limit; once you hit it, it downgrades to 3.5. Claude’s free version lets you chat for roughly a dozen rounds per day; if you exceed that, you’ll have to wait until the next day. Gemini is relatively more generous: the free version can use 1.5 Pro, and it integrates nicely with the whole Google ecosystem, which is quite convenient.

What is each one best at?

Here’s my real experience:

  • For coding, choose Claude: I had all three tools write a Python web-scraping script; Claude’s code structure was the clearest, the comments were solid, and it basically ran with little to no changes.
  • For long-form writing, also choose Claude: it supports an ultra-long context window. I dumped an entire paper in for rewriting, and it didn’t “forget” what was said earlier the way ChatGPT sometimes does.
  • For everyday Q&A, choose ChatGPT: it responds quickly and has strong web-browsing/search capabilities, so it’s very handy for things like trending news.
  • For academic research, you can try Gemini: it works well with Google Scholar and makes it pretty convenient to find references.

Is paying for it worth it?

All three subscriptions cost around $20 per month, so the difference isn’t huge. The key is what you’re using it for: if you do heavy coding or write long documents, Claude Pro is noticeably better; if you do a bit of everything day to day, ChatGPT Plus is more well-rounded; if you’re already in the Google ecosystem, Gemini Advanced has the highest level of integration.

There’s really no need to agonize over it for too long—try all the free versions first, and use whichever feels most natural. If you run into payment issues subscribing within China, you can check out Titikey; it can save you a lot of hassle.
