5 Reasons ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini Give Inconsistent Information—and How to Align Them

Have you ever had one of those maddening moments: you ask the same question, ChatGPT says A, Claude says B, and Gemini dumps a bunch of links on you—after reading them you’re even more confused. Don’t question your life choices; chances are it’s not that you asked poorly, but that the models “work differently.”

Why the Same Question Gets Different Answers

Different training emphases: Claude tends to be more thorough, ChatGPT is better at structured output, and Gemini is more proactive in web-search scenarios.

Different default assumptions: If you don’t specify your budget, region, or target audience, each of them will fill in the blanks differently—so the answers will naturally drift.

Differences in versions and tools: Some can browse the web and some can’t; some can read files while others only see the text you paste—so their information sources differ.

My go-to alignment tips

Write constraints as a checklist

Don’t just ask “how do I do it.” Add clear boundaries, like “for beginners, within three steps, no theory, give copy-and-paste scripts.”

Have them review each other’s drafts

Use ChatGPT to produce a first draft, then feed that same draft to Claude to “poke holes” in it, and have Gemini add verifiable sources or explain terminology. This works more reliably than betting on a single model.

Ask for checkable evidence

You can add a line like: provide conclusions + supporting points; if uncertain, label it as uncertain. They’ll be more restrained and do less “confident guessing.”

A universal prompt template

Just copy this and tweak it: I’m doing X, the goal is Y, the audience is Z, and the constraints are A/B/C. Please give 3 options; for each option, clearly write the steps, risks, and validation method.
