Using Midjourney requires a Discord account. If you complete account registration, email linking, and security settings first, joining servers and generating images later will go much more smoothly. This article follows the real operation sequence to clearly explain the key steps from registration to switching accounts, and also covers fixes for common sticking points.
1) Preparation: Register your Discord account first
Open the official Discord website or the Discord app, register with an email address, and set a username and password—try to avoid using a temporary email. After registering, go to your inbox, find Discord’s verification email, and complete verification; if your email isn’t verified, joining servers or using certain features may be limited. It’s recommended to register with an email you use regularly, which makes account recovery easier and reduces permission issues during Midjourney use.
2) Link your email and enable two-factor authentication: Secure your account properly
Go to Discord “User Settings/Settings” and confirm under “Account/My Account” that your email is verified; if you need to change your email, verify the new email first and then save the change. Next, enable two-step verification (2FA), use an authenticator app to generate time-based codes, and be sure to save your backup codes; this step is crucial for preventing account theft. Your Midjourney account essentially follows your Discord account—higher Discord security means more stable Midjourney usage.
3) Join the Midjourney server and complete authorization
After logging into Discord, join the official server via “Join the Discord” on the Midjourney website, or enter through an invite link. The first time you enter, just follow the prompts to complete basic authorization—no additional plugins are required. After entering any available channel, you can start generating images by sending a prompt with “/imagine”; if the channel is too crowded, you can also interact with the Midjourney Bot in your direct messages to reduce feed clutter.
4) Switching between multiple Midjourney accounts: Use Discord’s account switcher or log in manually
If you have multiple Midjourney accounts, they are essentially multiple Discord accounts: in the Discord client, find “Switch Accounts” (usually near the sidebar in User Settings or in the profile avatar menu), then follow the prompts to add another account and verify the login. After switching, Midjourney availability and subscription status will change according to the currently active Discord account. If your client doesn’t have an account switcher entry, you can only log out and then log in to another account; after switching, return to the Midjourney server and send a command once to confirm it’s working.
Common issues: Not receiving the verification email, or failing to join
If you don’t receive the verification email, first check your spam/promotions folder, then resend the verification email in Discord, and make sure your mailbox isn’t blocking messages related to “discord.com”. If you can’t join the Midjourney server, first check whether your Discord email verification is complete, whether your network is stable, and whether you accidentally triggered the server’s join restrictions. If it still doesn’t work, try joining via a browser entry point and then return to the client—this generally resolves most server-join hiccups with Midjourney.
