ChatGPT Registration and Login Guide: Email Verification, Phone Number Linking, and Device Management

ChatGPT

This tutorial only covers ChatGPT registration and login, walking you through everything in one go—from creating an account and verifying your email to linking your phone number and managing devices. Following the official process helps you avoid most issues such as verification failures, being unable to log in, and repeated redirect loops.

Preparation: Confirm the official entry point and network environment

To register for ChatGPT, prioritize the official website or the official app to avoid third-party mirror pages that can cause information leaks or abnormal CAPTCHA behavior. The commonly used entry point on browsers is chat.openai.com; on mobile, search in your system app store for “ChatGPT”.

If the page keeps loading or the verification step won’t open, try switching browsers first (Chrome/Safari are more stable) and clearing the cache, then confirm your network environment can access OpenAI-related services normally.

ChatGPT Registration Process: Three options—Email/Google/Apple

After opening the ChatGPT login page, click Sign up. You can register with email, or use Google/Apple for one-tap sign-in. Email registration requires entering an email address and password, then completing email verification in your inbox; if you don’t receive the email, check the spam folder and click “Resend”.

Some accounts may require phone verification during first-time registration or when risk controls are triggered. Just follow the on-page prompts to receive an SMS verification code. If you can’t receive the code, first check whether it’s being blocked and whether you’ve requested it too many times in a short period.

Login and Multi-device Use: How the web and app stay in sync

After logging in to ChatGPT, conversation history is automatically saved to your account. The same account can usually sync past chats between the web and the app. If history isn’t syncing, first confirm you’re logged in to the same ChatGPT account (in particular, don’t mix Google/Apple login with email login).

When logging in to ChatGPT on a public computer, it’s recommended to use an incognito window and log out immediately after use to prevent others from opening your chats directly.

Account Switching and Device Management: Logging out, logging back in, and security settings

When you need to switch accounts, the most reliable method is to choose Log out in ChatGPT’s Settings/Profile, then log in again with another account. Some app versions may show an “Switch account” entry point; if you don’t see it, that’s normal—just log out and then log back in.

To improve security, you can enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) on the OpenAI account security page, and regularly review logged-in devices and sessions. If you suspect someone else has logged into your account, change your password immediately and use “Log out of all devices”, then log back in to ChatGPT.
