Claude Account Switching and Multi-Device Login Guide: Email Linking and Secure Sign-Out

Claude

If you want to use Claude on both your phone and computer at the same time, or switch back and forth between a work account and a personal account, the most important thing is to clearly sort out the relationship between your login method and the email address tied to it. This Claude user guide will walk through the steps in the order of “login entry point — confirm email — switch accounts — secure sign-out,” and will also add the small details that people commonly trip over, so if you follow it, you’ll basically avoid mixing up accounts.

Enter Claude and confirm the currently logged-in account

After opening the Claude official website in your browser and logging in, first click the avatar in the top-right corner to go to the settings page, and confirm whether the account information and email displayed on the page are correct. Many people think they’re using Email A, but in fact they logged into a different Claude account via one-click Google/Apple sign-in, causing chat histories to be inconsistent. It’s recommended to stick with one commonly used Claude login method; switching later will be much easier.

Claude email verification and choosing a login method

Common Claude login methods include logging in with an email verification code and one-click third-party sign-in (such as Google or Apple). If you log in with email, when receiving the verification code, first check the spam folder, email delays, and any corporate email blocking rules, then try resending. To avoid “can’t receive the code but need Claude urgently,” you can stay logged in on your primary device and then log in on a second device afterward.

Switching Claude accounts: the right way on web and mobile

On the web, the most reliable way to switch Claude accounts is to sign out first from the avatar menu, then log in again using another email or another third-party account. If you need to switch frequently between two Claude accounts, it’s recommended to use your browser’s “profiles/user profiles” feature to save two separate login states so they don’t affect each other. On mobile, switching Claude accounts should also be done by signing out in settings first and then logging into the new account, to avoid overwriting directly and making past conversations appear to “disappear.”

Multi-device sync and secure sign-out: avoid losing chats and accidental use

After logging into the same Claude account on multiple devices, chat history will usually sync automatically; if you can see it on your computer but not on your phone, try pulling to refresh and check your network or whether you’re logged into the same Claude account. When using Claude on a public or shared computer, be sure to sign out manually and close the browser window to prevent the next person from entering your session directly. If you can still log in automatically after signing out, it means the browser has saved your login state; it’s recommended to clear site data or use an incognito/private window to log into Claude.
