This tutorial explains clearly how to register for Midjourney, how to complete authorization and linking via Discord, and the full process for generating your first image. Follow the steps and you can prepare your account from scratch and successfully send your first generation command.
Before registering, prepare: email, Discord, and a browser
To use Midjourney, you first need a Discord account you can log into normally, and make sure your email can receive verification codes and security emails. It’s recommended to use a commonly used browser to open it, to avoid having too many ad-blocking extensions that cause the authorization page to go blank or buttons to become unclickable. When the network is unstable, Midjourney’s authorization redirect may also reload repeatedly; getting the environment sorted out first can save a lot of time.
Log in to the Midjourney website and complete Discord authorization linking
After opening the Midjourney official website, clicking Log In will redirect you to Discord’s authorization page; the key here is “authorize the application,” not simply logging into Discord. After you confirm authorization, you will return to Midjourney’s page—this step completes the linking between Midjourney and Discord.
If you have multiple Discord accounts, be sure to log into the Discord account you want to link in the browser first, and then click Midjourney’s login/authorization. The most reliable approach is to use an incognito window, log into only one Discord account, and then authorize Midjourney—this helps avoid linking the wrong account.
Enter a channel and use /imagine to generate your first image
After linking is complete, find the Midjourney server or a related channel you’ve joined in Discord. In the input box, type “/imagine” and add your prompt to submit the task. Midjourney will return progress updates and the resulting images in the channel. Common actions are Upscale or Variation; just click the buttons to complete the workflow.
For prompts, try to clearly describe the subject, style, camera, and visual elements first—for example, “subject + material + lighting + background.” This is more stable than stacking adjectives. After you’re familiar with it, gradually add parameters such as aspect ratio and stylization; this is easier to get good images than randomly tweaking everything from the start.
Log out and switch accounts: avoid linking the wrong account and permission confusion
When you need to switch Midjourney accounts, log out on the official website first, then fully log out of the current Discord account (or clear Discord’s login state in the browser) before authorizing again. Many cases where it “looks like you switched but it’s still the old account” are essentially because the browser is still keeping the Discord session.
If authorization prompts insufficient permissions or you can’t join the server, first check whether Discord allows web pop-ups and third-party authorization pages to open properly; next, confirm whether you previously clicked “deny authorization.” Remove the old Midjourney authorization in Discord’s “Authorized Apps,” then go back to Midjourney and authorize again—this usually restores normal operation.
