When using Midjourney, the easiest places to get stuck are three types of issues: “no permission” prompts, image generation queues taking too long, and failed subscription charges. Below, I break down the most common situations by scenario and give you a step-by-step troubleshooting order you can use immediately. Most problems don’t require reinstalling or switching accounts—first confirm your login, permissions, and mode, and you can usually resolve it.
1. Prompt says “No permission / subscription required” but I already paid
Midjourney subscriptions are tied to your account, and the most common cause is actually “logged into the wrong account.” First log out on the Midjourney website, then log back in with the Discord account you used to pay, and then go back to Discord and refresh the channel permissions.
If you get a “no permission” message when generating images via bot commands in Discord, check whether you’re operating in an officially allowed channel/server, or whether you’ve been restricted by a channel admin. You can also generate once directly on the Midjourney website as a check: if the website can generate but Discord can’t, it’s most likely a Discord-side permission or login-session issue.
2. Image generation keeps queueing—very slow or stuck waiting
Midjourney speed depends on the mode you chose and the current queue; queueing doesn’t necessarily mean something is broken. First type /info in Discord to check your remaining Fast time. After Fast time is used up, speeds will slow down significantly—this is normal.
If you’re not in a rush, it’s recommended to switch to Relax in /settings (only eligible plans have it) and save Fast for key drafts that require rapid iteration. If a job doesn’t move for a long time, avoid repeatedly clicking to resend—this can pile up the queue even more. A steadier approach is to cancel the stuck one, then simplify the prompt or reduce the number generated in one go before retrying.
