Claude Troubleshooting: Fixing Missing Chat History, Stuck Attachments, and Repeated Logouts

Claude

What’s most infuriating about using Claude isn’t getting an unsatisfying answer, but the page seeming “broken”: history suddenly disappears, attachments keep spinning, and logins repeatedly bounce back. Below is a Claude troubleshooting guide covering the three most common types of issues. The steps are kept as short as possible, but each one can genuinely pinpoint the cause.

First, do 3 quick checks—don’t rush to reinstall the browser

When troubleshooting Claude, first open an incognito window and sign in to the same account to determine whether it’s a “browser environment issue” or an “account/server-side issue.” Then try switching networks (Wi‑Fi/mobile hotspot) once to quickly rule out local network blocking. Finally, check whether you have ad blockers, script managers, or privacy/anti-tracking extensions installed—these are the most likely to cause page components to fail to load.

Chat list is blank or history is missing: most likely an account mix-up or cache mismatch

Many cases of “my history is gone” are actually due to being signed into a different account (different email/different third-party sign-in method). First verify your account information on the profile page, then continue troubleshooting. If the account is correct, clearing site data is more reliable than wiping the entire browser: delete only Claude-related cookies and cache, then sign in again. If you often keep multiple tabs open chatting at the same time, close the extra tabs before refreshing—conflicts when writing sessions can also cause the list to appear temporarily blank.

Attachment upload stuck / parsing failed: check the file itself and the network middle layer first

When troubleshooting Claude, shrink the file first: remove oversized images, compress PDFs, or split long documents into two or three parts before uploading. Many “stuck” cases are interrupted during upload rather than being unsupported by the model. If it happens frequently on a corporate or campus network, switching to a mobile hotspot often restores it immediately, indicating the middle layer is restricting upload requests. You can also copy the content as plain text and paste it to verify whether the pathway works, then decide whether to keep using attachments.

Repeated logouts, login loop, buttons unresponsive: commonly caused by extensions and cross-site restrictions

For this type of issue, Claude troubleshooting focuses on “the session being blocked”: temporarily disable ad blockers and privacy-related extensions, and allow site cookies. If the browser has strict anti-tracking enabled or third-party cookies disabled, the login state may not be saved, causing a redirect loop. If it still doesn’t work, switching to a clean browser profile (create a new Profile) is usually easier than repeatedly clearing cache.

Still not working: gather the right info before reporting for a higher hit rate

If troubleshooting Claude still doesn’t solve it, record three things before submitting feedback: a screenshot of the error page, the steps that led to it (the operation sequence from opening the page to the error), and your browser and network environment (whether using a proxy/whether on a corporate network). If the same account works normally on another device, it’s basically a local environment issue; if the same abnormality occurs across multiple devices, wait for the service to recover and try again, to avoid repeatedly logging in pointlessly and triggering risk controls.
