Claude User Guide: Registration & Login, Email Linking, and Account Switching

Claude

This Claude user guide focuses on three things: how to register for Claude, how to verify your email information after logging in, and how to safely switch between Claude accounts on the same device. The steps are written based on entry points you can actually find on the real pages, so if you follow them, you’ll basically avoid detours.

1. Registering a Claude account: You can use an email address or a third-party account

After opening the official Claude website (claude.ai), the page will guide you to create an account. Typically you can choose to register with an email address, or use a third-party option like Google/Apple to log in with one click. Follow the prompts to complete verification and you’ll be taken to the Claude chat page.

It’s recommended to prioritize an email address you use long-term and that can reliably receive messages, because later Claude logins and information verification may involve email. After registration, don’t rush to close the page—take a moment to check the account information shown to avoid accidentally registering multiple Claude accounts with different email addresses.

2. How to “link” an email: Confirm the login method first, then complete your profile

What many people call “linking an email” is more accurately, in Claude: going into settings to confirm your current account’s login method and whether your account information is complete. You can find entries like Settings or Account from your profile avatar/menu and check whether Claude is currently logged in via email or a third-party account.

If you log in using a third-party account, Claude may not allow you to “change it” to email login; different login methods often correspond to different account systems. If you want to manage Claude long-term with a particular email address, the most reliable approach is to register with that email from the beginning and stick to the same login method.

3. Switching Claude accounts: Log out and log back in to avoid account mix-ups

To switch Claude accounts, open the profile menu in the top-right corner of the page, choose Log out, then log in again with another account. Before switching, if you have important conversations in Claude, first confirm that your history has synced and is visible, so you don’t mistakenly think “the records are gone.”

If you frequently switch accounts in the same browser, it’s recommended to use an incognito/private window or different browsers to log into different Claude accounts—this is the least likely way to mix cookies. On shared devices for teams/families, it’s even more important to build the habit of logging out of Claude to reduce the risk of accidentally sending messages or viewing someone else’s conversations.

4. Common login sticking points: What to do if you can’t receive emails or get stuck in a login loop

If you can’t receive the email verification code or confirmation email, first check your spam folder and the “Promotions/Subscriptions” categories, then add Claude-related sender domains to your allowlist and try again. If it still doesn’t arrive, registering Claude again with an email provider that reliably receives mail is often more time-saving than repeatedly refreshing.

If you encounter a loop where Claude sends you back to the login page after logging in, first clear your browser cache and cookies, or test directly in an incognito/private window to see if it’s resolved. If your corporate network or extensions are blocking scripts, that can also cause the Claude page to load incompletely; temporarily disabling blocking-type extensions and trying again usually helps pinpoint the issue.
