ChatGPT FAQ Summary: Image Analysis Failures, Voice Issues, and Cache Fixes

ChatGPT

When using ChatGPT, the most common hurdles aren’t “not knowing how to ask,” but small glitches like images not being analyzed, voice not working, or the page freezing. Below is a scenario-based FAQ. Following these checks usually restores normal use within a few minutes.

What to do if image upload fails or ChatGPT can’t recognize images

First, make sure you’re using ChatGPT from an entry point that supports images: upload an image or drag and drop a file in the chat box, rather than pasting an image as a link. If you’re on mobile, check whether photo album permissions have been allowed; otherwise you may see “can’t select an image / upload does nothing.”

If recognition is incomplete after uploading, try switching to a clearer image first: crop out irrelevant background, keep the subject and text areas, and avoid extra-long screenshots when possible. On browsers, it’s recommended to disable ad blockers or script-blocking extensions and try again—some extensions can interfere with loading ChatGPT’s file upload component.

Voice input not responding, can’t hear anything, or unable to read aloud

Most voice-related issues come down to permissions and device switching. First, grant microphone permission to the browser or the ChatGPT app in system settings, then confirm in the permissions manager in the address bar that “Microphone: Allow” is enabled.

If you can record but the transcription comes back empty, check whether the wrong input device is selected: on computers, a common case is that Bluetooth headphones are connected but the microphone is still set to the laptop’s built-in array. If read-aloud has no sound, switch the system output device back to your current headphones/speakers, and close other browser tabs that are using audio before trying again.

Stuck sending, replies very slow, or endless loading spinner

If ChatGPT is stuck on “Sending,” try the three easiest steps first: refresh the page, log out and log back in, and switch networks (for example, from Wi‑Fi to cellular/hotspot). In many cases it’s a temporary network hiccup or an abnormal session state—re-establishing the connection restores it.

If only one particular conversation is especially slow, try starting a new chat, and split a large one-time input into two or three messages. On browsers, you can also clear the site cache and cookies and then log in again; corrupted cache can cause the ChatGPT interface to load incompletely or interactions to fail.

History missing, and how to set privacy and data options

If you see an empty history, first confirm whether you’ve switched accounts or workspaces: with multiple accounts logged in, it’s easy to accidentally use a different identity. Next, check whether options like “Temporary chat / don’t save history” are enabled, which would prevent chats from appearing in the history list.

A more reliable approach is to export important content regularly, and review data and privacy options in settings, choosing whether to keep chat history based on your needs. If you receive an abnormal login alert, change your password promptly and enable stricter security verification to prevent your ChatGPT account from being used by others and causing record confusion.
