OpenClaw User Guide: How to Sign Up, Log In, Link Your Phone Number, and Manage Devices

This OpenClaw guide focuses on three high-frequency tasks: how to register and complete your first login, how to link your phone number to improve account security, and how to manage and sign out after logging in on multiple devices. Follow the steps below, and in most cases you can get your OpenClaw account organized within a few minutes.

Sign up & first login: set up your account foundation

After opening the OpenClaw website or app, choose the login method you use most often and can keep long-term (email, phone number, or a third-party account). When registering, it’s recommended to use a regularly used email address, since password recovery and security notifications will be easier later.

Once you’ve successfully logged in for the first time, go to your profile page and verify that details like your nickname, avatar, and region are correct. Many login issues actually come from using the wrong email/phone number or signing in with a different third-party account. Double-checking the basics up front can save a lot of time.

Link your phone number and email: reduce lockouts and account-loss risk

Go to OpenClaw’s Account Settings or Security Settings, find the entry for “Link phone number/email,” and follow the prompts to complete verification via a code. It’s best to link a phone number you personally use often, and avoid temporary or shared numbers that may cause verification failures later.

If you registered with a phone number, it’s still recommended to link an email as well to create a “two-channel” setup. When OpenClaw requires risk-control checks or a password reset, email verification is often easier to complete and leaves a clearer record.

Multi-device login & sign-out: avoid “device limit” issues

In OpenClaw’s Security or Device Management page, you can usually see recent login activity and a list of signed-in devices. If you spot an unfamiliar device, sign out of that device first, then change your password immediately and log in again.

If you frequently switch between your phone, tablet, and computer, consider sticking to one or two primary devices to reduce constant device changes. If you see device warnings or repeated verification prompts, try signing out of all devices first, then log back in on your main device for a higher success rate.

The right way to switch accounts: a safer sequence

When switching accounts in OpenClaw, don’t rely on the system back button or force-closing the app. Instead, use “Log out” in Settings, confirm you’re back on the login page, and then sign in with the other account. This helps reduce account mix-ups caused by cached data.

If you manage multiple OpenClaw accounts, it’s best to use different email/phone combinations for each one, and make them clearly distinguishable in your profile (for example, different avatars/nicknames). This makes it less likely you’ll confuse which account a subscription, quota, or device record belongs to.
