Claude User Guide: Sign-Up, Login, Email Verification, and Switching Accounts Across Devices

Claude

This Claude guide focuses on three things: how to register and successfully log in to Claude, how to complete email verification, and how to safely switch Claude accounts between your phone and computer. The process isn’t complicated, but there are a few easy pitfalls. Follow the steps below and you can usually finish it in one go.

Registering a Claude account: the easiest path on the web

Open the official Claude website (claude.ai), then click “Sign up/Continue”. Claude typically offers two options: signing up with email or logging in with a third-party account (such as Google). Choose the one you use most often.

If you register with email, it’s best to use an inbox that reliably receives messages. If you log in with a third-party account, your Claude account will be strongly tied to that login method going forward. Once you reach the chat page, your Claude account registration is complete.

How to verify your email: what to do if you don’t receive the message

In some cases, Claude will ask you to verify your email: open your inbox, find the verification email, and click the link inside to return to Claude. Check your spam/promotions folders first, since verification emails are often misclassified.

If it still doesn’t arrive, first confirm you didn’t enter the wrong email address and that your email provider isn’t blocking it. Then go back to the Claude page and trigger the email to be sent again. If needed, registering a Claude account with a different email is often faster than waiting repeatedly.

Logging in on multiple devices and switching accounts: how to change Claude accounts on desktop and mobile

The same Claude account can be used across multiple devices: after logging in on a desktop browser, log in on your phone using the same method to sync and continue. To switch Claude accounts, the most reliable approach is to log out on the current device first, then log in again with another account.

If you frequently switch between multiple Claude accounts on the same computer, use separate browser user profiles (or an incognito/private window) for each account. This helps reduce cookie conflicts that can cause repeated redirects.

Signing out securely and fixing the “keeps going back to the old account” issue

Use the account menu on the Claude page to sign out, then close all Claude-related tabs to avoid leftover sessions. If you use Claude on a public computer, be sure to sign out and clear browser cache/site data.

If it still automatically returns to an old Claude account after you sign out, it’s usually because the third-party account is still logged in within the browser. The fix is to sign out of Claude first, then sign out of the linked third-party account as well—or use a different browser to log in to Claude.
