AbbVie has recently teamed up with Major League Baseball (MLB) to launch the “Striking Out Cancer” charitable initiative: throughout the 2026 season, for every strikeout recorded, AbbVie will donate to charities that help fight cancer—covering “every strikeout, every game, all season long.” By connecting on-field data with charitable giving, the program transforms the moments fans watch most closely into ongoing support for health-focused philanthropy.
This partnership did not start from scratch. “Striking Out Cancer” was first introduced last summer through a collaboration between AbbVie and the Chicago Cubs. AbbVie pledged to donate $233 for every strikeout recorded by Cubs pitchers at home, referencing the reminder statistic that “about 233 Americans are diagnosed with cancer every hour.” As AbbVie became an official pharmaceutical sponsor of MLB, the initiative has expanded to the league level, creating a broader, season-long philanthropic tie-in.
