According to multiple media reports, OpenAI plans to discontinue operations of the Sora generative video platform. Variety noted on a podcast that Sora has faced challenges in product deployment and commercialization. OpenAI said publicly that it will redirect resources to other R&D directions, including technology areas with greater long-term strategic significance. This move means that after Sora launched in late 2024, related features and services will gradually be withdrawn from the market.
At the industry level, Sora’s pullback is also affecting partners. Reports say Disney has ended its collaboration arrangement with OpenAI, putting previously watched partnership plans on hold. For the content industry, leading film and TV companies are becoming more cautious about adopting AI video generation. Compliance, copyright, and brand-safety risk controls will continue to be key thresholds in purchasing and partnership decisions.
