Anthropic has announced updates to its AI tools Claude Code and Claude Cowork. With the "computer use" feature enabled, Claude can perform assigned operations on your computer to complete tasks. The system prioritizes calling supported connectors and services (such as Google Workspace suite, Slack, etc.); if no available connector is present, it can still switch to computer-level operations to continue the process.
To reduce risks, Claude should request user permission before taking such actions. However, Anthropic also reminds that this feature is still recommended to avoid handling sensitive information as a precaution. Currently, the "computer use" capability is launched as a research preview and will be continuously adjusted based on user feedback; initially, it is available to Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers on macOS. Claude Cowork was launched in January this year, positioned as a more "lightweight" AI assistant version aimed at a broader audience compared to Claude Code.
