Google has officially launched a native Gemini AI application for Mac users, now available for download. This initiative addresses the previous limitation where Mac users could only access Gemini through a web browser, providing a more convenient local AI assistant experience. Amidst the increasingly competitive AI assistant landscape, Google's release of a dedicated macOS app aims to close the gap with its rivals.
The application can be obtained as a .dmg installation file directly from the official Gemini website. It is completely free and supports systems running macOS 15 and later. This move directly responds to the existing availability of dedicated Mac applications from competitors like Anthropic's Claude and OpenAI's ChatGPT, potentially enhancing Gemini's usability and appeal on the Mac platform. Users can now invoke AI features more quickly without relying on browser tabs.
