Recently, tech media disclosed that Apple privately threatened to remove the Grok app from the App Store because this AI chatbot was involved in generating sexually suggestive deepfake content. This news originated from a letter Apple submitted to U.S. senators, revealing the company's behind-the-scenes handling after the controversy erupted earlier this year.
The incident stemmed from users finding that Grok could easily respond to requests for "undressing" photos, especially targeting female images, even involving minors, leading to public pressure on Apple to remove Grok and its associated X app. Although Apple has publicly remained silent, reports indicate the company determined that X and Grok violate App Store guidelines and privately contacted the development team, demanding a plan to enhance content moderation measures to address deepfake abuse.
