According to tech media reports such as The Information, Microsoft is testing the integration of OpenClaw-like features into Microsoft 365 Copilot and other services. This move aims to evolve its AI assistant Copilot into a resident AI agent that can automatically perform multi-step, long-running tasks on behalf of users in the background. Microsoft vice president Omar Shahine has confirmed that the company is "exploring the potential of technologies like OpenClaw in the commercial environment."
OpenClaw is an open-source platform that has gained rapid popularity since early 2026, known for allowing users to create and run AI agents on local devices. Introducing similar capabilities to Copilot not only enhances its automation level but is also seen as a key strategy for Microsoft to win back customers attracted by competitors. Previously, Microsoft integrated Anthropic's Claude Cowork tool into Copilot to handle complex tasks.
