Elon Musk's social platform X recently announced adjustments to its creator revenue sharing program, significantly reducing payments to users who publish clickbait and recycled news stories. The platform warns account holders to avoid "flooding the timeline" with low-quality content to improve overall information quality. This move stems from an open statement by X's product lead Nikita Bier, marking further control over the platform's content ecosystem.
Bier clearly stated that all "aggregators"—users who quickly repackage and forward news—have already received lower payments from the revenue sharing program. Additionally, users who abuse the "BREAKING" tag in every post will face permanent payment reductions. X is experimenting with new tools to identify the original authors of content and allocate a portion of the revenue to them, aiming to directly reward original content and combat "post theft."
