Elon Musk's social platform X, formerly Twitter, has recently adjusted its creator revenue-sharing program, reducing payments for users who post clickbait and recycled news content. The platform warns users to avoid "flooding the timeline" with low-quality material, aiming to optimize the content ecosystem and encourage more authentic, valuable sharing. This policy change stems from a public statement by X's product lead, Nikita Bier, marking a further tightening of the platform's content governance.
According to Bier, all "aggregators"—users who quickly repackage and reshare news from other accounts—are now receiving less compensation from revenue sharing. The platform has also implemented permanent payment reductions for those who abuse the "breaking" tag in every post. Additionally, X is testing new tools to identify the original authors of content and allocate a portion of revenue to them, which could reward original efforts. Meanwhile, the platform has made it clear that users posting unlabeled AI-generated war videos will be banned from earning revenue, to address misinformation risks.
