Want to create AI art with Midjourney but don’t know where to start? This step-by-step guide walks you through the entire process—from registration and Discord setup to managing multiple accounts. No experience needed. Follow along and start generating your first AI image in minutes.

Step 1: Register a Midjourney Account

Midjourney does not have a standalone website for registration—everything happens through Discord. First, you’ll need a Discord account. Go to discord.com to sign up, using any email (including domestic ones) for verification. Then head to the Midjourney official website, click the “Join the Beta” button, and you’ll be automatically redirected to Discord with an invite to join the official server.

Once joined, you’ll see various channels on the left. Look for the “newbies-xxx” beginner channels. Here you can type the “/imagine” command to start generating images. Note: The free account only allows 25 image generations, after which you’ll need a paid subscription.

Step 2: Link Discord & Connect a Server

Linking is automatically done when you join the official server. If you want to use Midjourney’s private bot, you need to create your own Discord server. Click the “+” on the left side of Discord to create a new server, then go back to the Midjourney official server. Find the “members” channel, click the “Show Member List” icon at the top right, locate “Midjourney Bot,” click “Add to Server,” and select the server you just created.

Now you can use Midjourney in your own server without being distracted by public channel messages. After linking, simply type “/imagine prompt: your description” in any text channel to generate images.

Step 3: Switch Accounts & Manage Multiple Accounts

One Discord account can only be linked to one Midjourney subscription. To switch accounts, the simplest method is to log out of your current Discord account, log in with another Discord account, then rejoin the Midjourney official server or add the bot to your own server. If you have multiple Midjourney subscriptions, it’s recommended to prepare a separate Discord account for each subscription.

You can also use Discord’s “Switch Account” feature (add accounts in User Settings), but note that the Midjourney bot recognizes the currently active account. When switching, make sure to log out of the original account and verify again. If you’re using a shared account (co-subscription), simply log into the corresponding Discord account each time—don’t mix them up.

Frequently Asked Questions & Tips

If you see “Verification failed” during registration, it’s usually a network environment issue—check if your proxy is stable. If you can’t find “Midjourney Bot” when trying to add it, make sure you’ve already joined the official server and refresh Discord. After switching accounts, if you get a “No active subscription” message, verify that the currently logged-in Discord account is the paid one. Also, avoid logging into multiple Discord windows at the same time to prevent conflicts.
