Gemini App Hit by Bug: Key Features Reverted, Old UI Returns on Android

A significant bug has hit Google's Gemini app on Android, causing several recently launched features to roll back unexpectedly and the user interface to revert to an older design. According to tech outlet 9to5Google, the issue has surfaced over the past day, primarily affecting users on Google app version 17.14—both the stable and beta builds.

Affected users report that tapping the "+" menu in the app no longer brings up the Tools menu as expected, making the overall interaction feel like an older version. The system-level Gemini overlay on Android has also reverted to the legacy UI, with some quick-access shortcuts disappearing. However, the web version of Gemini (gemini.google.com) remains unaffected by this bug. Users can still access all features normally via mobile browsers or the Progressive Web App (PWA).

Google has not yet issued an official statement on this issue, but it is suspected to be caused by a synchronization error between the client and server. For Android users who urgently need advanced Gemini features, switching temporarily to the web version is currently the most stable workaround. Google is expected to fix this bug in a future update, restoring full functionality and the new interface within the app.

Editor's note: While client-side rollbacks like this are not unheard of, directly affecting core UI and feature entry points exposes compatibility issues during version iterations. Users are advised to keep an eye on the Google Play Store update logs and prioritize using the web version as a backup in the meantime.
