Google Home Gemini Now Supports Continued Conversations – Early Access Live

Google announced today that Gemini for Google Home is getting a major upgrade: the Continued Conversation feature is now available in early access. This feature allows users to ask follow-up questions or give commands without having to say "Hey Google" again after the initial wake-up. For example, after Gemini reads out the ingredients for a recipe, you can simply say "Add these to my shopping list," making the experience feel much more natural and fluid.

According to Google, the new feature brings notable improvements in contextual understanding — Gemini can better distinguish between a user’s follow-up query and background conversations from other people in the room, reducing accidental triggers. In addition, the feature now supports all supported languages and regions, a significant expansion from the previous English-only version. For now, it is only available to users enrolled in the early access program.

Our take: Continued Conversation is a key step toward improving interaction efficiency in the smart speaker space. Google’s optimization with Gemini has the potential to address user frustration over frequent wake-word repetition. However, real-world performance in voice recognition accuracy and privacy protection still needs to be observed. If the full rollout delivers on these promises, the Google Home assistant experience could see a meaningful leap forward.
