Google has pushed a major update to its Home app and Gemini voice assistant in late April. This upgrade focuses on modernizing camera and media controls as well as significantly improving the response speed of the Gemini voice assistant. According to official information, smart lights and plugs can now respond up to 1.5 seconds faster, thanks to optimizations in device command processing and home layout. In addition, Google Home Premium subscribers can now see AI-generated event descriptions in their timeline, making it easier to browse history and find key moments. A new account suspension mechanism has also been introduced, allowing users to temporarily pause their subscription if payment issues arise, without losing video history, familiar face recognition, or AI event descriptions.
On the Gemini for Home front, the voice assistant now features faster smart home control and improved understanding of home environments and conversation context. The updated app also brings a new camera experience, clearer event descriptions, faster search, and simplified camera settings. Meanwhile, media and playlist support, notes and to-do lists, better overall comprehension, and parental controls have all been enhanced. Users can set content filters, limit screen time, pause device access, or schedule quiet hours through the Digital Wellbeing & Parental Controls section in the Home app.
