When using a ChatGPT Plus subscription, many users run into problems like checking their billing history, failing to update a payment card, or not finding the option to cancel auto-renewal. This article covers the most common billing and payment questions to help you sort out these details quickly.
How to View Your ChatGPT Plus Billing History
After logging into the ChatGPT website, click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner and go to My Account. Under the subscription section, you'll see the Billing History option. This lists each charge with the date, amount, and payment method used, and supports downloading receipts in PDF format. If you've linked a credit card, the last four digits will appear for easy reconciliation.
Note: Billing records only cover the last 12 months. If you need older data, it's best to save it in advance. Also, if you subscribed via a gift card or a third-party top-up, the billing page may only show "Gift Card Credit" without detailed source information.
Why Did My Payment Method Suddenly Fail? How to Fix It?
Payment failures usually happen for three reasons: insufficient card balance, the issuing bank's risk control blocking the transaction, or a mismatch between the billing address and card details. If this occurs, first check the failure notification sent by OpenAI to your email—it will specify the cause.
The fix is straightforward: go to Account Settings → Payment Methods, remove the old card, and add a new valid one. We recommend using a Visa or Mastercard single-currency card; avoid China UnionPay single-currency cards (some banks don't support foreign currency payments). When adding the new card, make sure the billing address matches the one on file with your bank. If it still fails, try switching to a different network and retry.
