OpenAI has officially launched Advanced Account Security (AAS), a set of optional protections for ChatGPT users. While designed with high-value users in mind, the feature is available to anyone looking to strengthen account security. With AAS, users can replace traditional passwords with hardware security keys or software passkeys. The system also introduces login alerts, shorter session durations, and backup recovery keys — significantly reducing the risk of unauthorized access.
As part of this initiative, digital security provider Yubico has announced a partnership with OpenAI to support ChatGPT account binding for two new security key products. Yubico CEO Jerrod Chong stated, "Our goal is to fundamentally reduce the threat of unauthorized access to sensitive data across OpenAI accounts worldwide." Security keys are small hardware devices that connect via USB ports and provide strong protection against increasingly common phishing attacks.
