Spotify offers two main subscription plans: Individual and Family, and many users find it tricky to choose. This article compares them from three angles—price, device support, and extra features—to help you quickly find the best fit.
Price & Subscription Cost Differences
Spotify Individual costs $9.99 per month (or the local equivalent) for single use. The Family plan, on the other hand, is $12.99 per month and allows up to 6 family members, breaking down to roughly $2.17 per person. For households with more than two people, or groups of roommates, the Family plan offers much better value.
Keep in mind that the Family plan requires all members to live at the same address. Spotify verifies this through occasional address checks and may ask you to update your residential info. The Individual plan has no address restrictions, making it ideal for frequent movers or solo dwellers.
Core Features & Device Limits
Both plans offer identical core features: the full music library, up to 320kbps audio quality, ad-free listening, and offline downloads. The key difference lies in device control. With Individual, you can only play on one device at a time, and switching pauses the music. Family allows each member to play simultaneously on their own devices without interruptions.
