According to recent reports, xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, is planning to integrate the voice mode of its AI assistant Grok into Apple CarPlay, offering drivers a hands-free conversational AI experience. The latest version of the Grok iOS app now includes a CarPlay placeholder—though the feature is not yet active, the interface clearly states "Grok Voice Mode coming soon to CarPlay," marking xAI's next step in expanding its in-car AI ecosystem. Grok is already the default built-in feature in Tesla vehicles, and this move to CarPlay will allow non-Tesla owners to access the service as well.
Apple CarPlay has recently opened up support for AI chatbots, with ChatGPT and Perplexity already onboard. Grok's addition will further strengthen CarPlay's AI application lineup. Meanwhile, Apple itself is developing a dedicated Siri app for CarPlay, expected to launch with iOS 27 and possibly powered by Google's Gemini model, intensifying competition in the in-car AI space. xAI's move signals its active efforts to expand user reach through third-party platforms rather than relying solely on its own ecosystem.
