Elon Musk’s AI company xAI is planning to bring Grok voice mode to Apple CarPlay, offering drivers a hands-free way to interact with its conversational AI assistant. According to 9to5Mac, a CarPlay placeholder has appeared in the latest version of the Grok iOS app, displaying a “Grok Voice mode coming soon to CarPlay” message when launched. Although the feature isn’t live yet, it clearly indicates that xAI is about to support Apple’s in-car system, expanding Grok’s reach beyond Tesla vehicles into a wider automotive ecosystem.
Apple CarPlay recently opened its platform to AI chatbots, with ChatGPT and Perplexity already onboard. Once Grok launches, it will become the third AI voice assistant on the platform. Notably, Apple is also expected to release a dedicated Siri app for CarPlay later this year, which may be powered by Google’s Gemini model — further intensifying competition in the in-car AI space. Grok is already a built-in feature in Tesla models, and xAI’s latest move signals its ambition to dominate the in-car voice interaction market beyond its own brand.
