According to the latest intel, Elon Musk’s AI company xAI is planning to bring Grok voice mode to Apple CarPlay. In the most recent version of the Grok iOS app, a CarPlay placeholder has appeared that simply displays the message: “Grok Voice mode coming soon to CarPlay.” Although the feature hasn’t officially launched yet, this placeholder clearly signals that xAI is preparing to support Apple’s in-car experience, bringing Grok’s conversational AI assistant’s hands-free capabilities to millions of drivers.
Apple CarPlay already supports AI chatbot integration, with ChatGPT and Perplexity available as early adopters. Grok’s entry would expand the lineup to three major AI assistants. Notably, Grok is already built into Tesla vehicles as an in-car feature, but extending support via CarPlay would make it accessible across virtually all CarPlay-compatible car brands. Meanwhile, Apple is also reportedly planning to launch a dedicated Siri app for CarPlay later this year, rumored to be based on Google’s Gemini model—further heating up the in-car AI competition.
