Spotify has quietly rolled out a batch of new features recently—from Offline Backup to AI-powered playlists—each designed to enhance your music experience in subtle ways. Many users haven't noticed them after updating, so let's break them down one by one.
Offline Backup: Listen Without an Internet Connection
Previously, Spotify's offline mode only worked for songs you had manually downloaded. The new "Offline Backup" feature automatically creates a temporary playlist from cached music when you have no network at all. Even if you forget to download songs ahead of time, you won't run out of music on the subway or a flight. This feature is enabled by default; you can find it under Settings > Storage & Offline.
Jam Sessions & AI Playlists
The updated "Jam" feature lets friends sync playback in real time, so everyone can add songs to the queue—perfect for remote hangouts. Meanwhile, the AI Playlist feature is smarter than ever: just type a natural language request like "upbeat songs for an evening run" and Spotify will generate a custom playlist on the spot. This feature is still rolling out gradually; if you don't see it yet, try updating to the latest version.
