The long-standing "China-US AI gap" is rapidly narrowing, and in some dimensions, China has already overtaken the US. According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, after Chinese AI company DeepSeek shocked the industry with its advanced models in early 2025, China has quickly transformed into a global testing ground for large-scale AI tool deployment. As of December 2025, China's generative AI user base has exceeded 600 million, a 142% year-over-year increase. This trend is drawing serious attention from Silicon Valley tech giants.
The explosive adoption of agentic AI is the key turning point. Domestic AI agents represented by OpenClaw have seen engineers on-site helping users install systems in cities like Beijing and Shenzhen for consecutive days, with enterprise deployments growing especially fast. According to data tracked by AI gateway platform OpenRouter, based on tokens (data units) in computer science, Chinese AI models have recently surpassed US models in weekly data consumption, marking a historic milestone in AI application density and actual consumption scale.
