According to a report from 9to5Google, Google announced a series of updates for the Home app in spring 2026. Among them, the Gemini for Home voice assistant has received a "smart upgrade" powered by the Gemini 3.1 model. The model's advanced reasoning capabilities allow the assistant to "better understand and execute complex, multi-step voice commands." This update focuses on improving interaction efficiency in home scenarios, signaling a significant advancement in Google's smart home AI applications.
Specifically, Gemini 3.1 is now available as a "Pro" model within the Gemini app and powers the Gemini Live feature. In the Home context, Gemini for Home can now "handle more complex requests from the start", including controlling smart home devices, setting alarms, creating reminders, and managing calendar tasks. Google emphasized that this upgrade is now fully rolled out to all early access users. Additionally, Google teased the upcoming launch of the "Ask Home" feature on home.google.com, further expanding the interaction boundaries of the home voice assistant.
