Google has announced the Spring 2026 update for the Google Home app, with the biggest highlight being that the Gemini for Home voice assistant receives the Gemini 3.1 model upgrade. This upgrade primarily enhances the assistant's reasoning capabilities, enabling it to better understand and execute complex multi-step voice commands. According to reports, Gemini 3.1 was previously launched as a "Pro" model within the Gemini app and powers the Gemini Live feature. Bringing it to the Home voice assistant means users can now issue more complex requests in a single command when controlling smart home devices, setting alarms, creating reminders, and managing calendars, without needing to break them down step by step.
In addition to the voice assistant upgrade, this update also includes improvements to Nest Cam cameras and automation features. Furthermore, Google has previewed the upcoming "Ask Home" feature set to launch on home.google.com, though no specific timeline has been announced. These updates show that Google continues to integrate AI capabilities deeply into the home ecosystem, making smart home interactions more natural and efficient.
