OpenAI today officially launched Codex for Chrome, a new Chrome browser extension that allows Codex to work directly in Chrome on both Mac and PC. The extension enables Codex to test web applications, gather context across multiple tabs, and use web developer tools without taking over browser control. OpenAI noted that after the desktop Codex app introduced the "Computer Use" feature, they observed most workflows taking place within the browser, so this extension aims to make Codex faster and more convenient for browser-based tasks—especially those that plugins or APIs cannot handle.
As part of OpenAI’s broader push to integrate Codex into daily work, the Chrome extension is designed not just for developers but also for general users. It allows Codex to directly understand and interact with the browser interface, handling complex web automation, data extraction, and front-end debugging scenarios. Meanwhile, on April 9, OpenAI announced a new ChatGPT subscription tier at $100 per month, tailored for heavier Codex usage to meet the needs of high-frequency developers and enterprises.
