As an emerging tool in the AI agent space, OPenClaw often trips up new users during registration and device binding. This guide takes you from scratch through account sign-up, multi-device switching, and common configuration fixes – so you can hit the ground running.

Quick Registration & Account Verification

On your first time with OPenClaw, visit the official website and click "Get Started" to reach the sign-up page. You can register with an email address or sign in directly with a Google account – using a primary email is recommended to ensure you receive the verification code. After verification, the system will prompt you to set your personal preferences, including language and notification settings. Note: if you don't see the verification email in your inbox, check your spam folder or request a resend, as some international email providers may experience delays.

Once registered, you can try the basic features for free, but there’s a daily usage limit. To unlock higher quotas, upgrade your plan in the account settings. The free tier already handles everyday simple tasks, while the Pro plan is ideal for developers with frequent API calls.

Multi-Device Binding & Account Switching

OPenClaw supports three access methods: PC web browser, mobile app, and a browser extension. After logging in, go to the "Device Management" page and click "Add Device" to generate a temporary authorization code. Enter that code on your other device to complete the binding. You can bind up to 5 devices at the same time; if you need more, you’ll have to manually unbind an old device first.

Switching accounts is easy: click your avatar and select "Switch Account" – no need to re-enter passwords, as the system keeps a list of your most recent logins. This feature is especially handy if you share a family plan with friends; each member’s configuration stays independent.

API Key Setup & Troubleshooting Errors

Developers often need to integrate OPenClaw into their own projects. In the settings page, head to "Developer Options" to request an API key – note that the key is shown only once, so be sure to copy and save it immediately. When configuring, pay attention to your request rate limit; exceeding it will trigger a 429 error.

Common errors like "401 Unauthorized" usually mean the key has expired or was entered incorrectly – simply regenerate a new one. If you encounter a "500 Internal Server Error," it’s typically a temporary server issue; try again later. The official OPenClaw documentation explains each error code in detail, so checking it first can save you a lot of time.
