Google has rolled out a wave of updates to the Home app in spring 2026, with the Gemini for Home voice assistant receiving a "smart upgrade" powered by the Gemini 3.1 model. This update significantly improves the assistant's ability to understand and execute complex, multi-step commands, enabling it to handle tasks involving smart home control, alarm settings, reminder creation, and calendar management with greater accuracy. In addition, Gemini 3.1, now available as the "Pro" model in the Gemini app, also powers the Gemini Live feature.
For early access users, Gemini for Home is now fully deployed with Gemini 3.1, allowing you to issue more complex initial requests simply by saying "Hey Google." For example, you can dim the lights, set a timer, and check your schedule all at once—no need to break it down step by step. Meanwhile, Google has teased an upcoming "Ask Home" feature, set to launch on home.google.com, which promises to deliver richer home control and management capabilities. This update also includes improvements to Nest Cam and automation workflows.
