AI company OpenAI officially launched its new consulting and services business — OpenAI Deployment Co. (DeployCo) — on Monday, with the unit valued at $14 billion, according to Axios. DeployCo secured an initial $4 billion investment, carrying a pre-money valuation of $10 billion, while OpenAI retains majority control. Investors are guaranteed a minimum return of 17.5%, though profits are capped. This move signals OpenAI’s expansion from model research into enterprise-level deployment services.
Lead investors include TPG, with Advent International, Bain Capital, and Brookfield joining as co-founding partners. Notably, Goldman Sachs is the only institution that has invested in both OpenAI DeployCo and rival Anthropic’s similar initiative. DeployCo has also acquired a frontier engineering team called Tomoro to rapidly build localized deployment capabilities and help enterprise clients implement AI systems on the ground.
