At the recent Google I/O developer conference, Google officially unveiled Gemini Spark, a “personal AI agent” product that marks the tech giant’s entry into the personalized AI agent space. According to the official announcement, Gemini Spark is designed to be “a personal AI agent that helps users navigate their digital lives,” capable of handling complex, multi-step tasks autonomously and in the background across multiple platforms. The product directly competes with the open-source OpenClaw project, which previously ignited the personal AI agent trend.
During the demo, Josh Woodward, Google’s Vice President of Labs, Gemini, and AI Studio, showed how Spark can draft emails on behalf of users. Gemini Spark runs on dedicated virtual machines, ensuring 24/7 availability. Users simply assign tasks, and the agent works in the background until completion—even if the laptop is shut down. This design significantly boosts the practicality and autonomy of AI assistants, letting users offload more repetitive work to AI.
