As a world-leading music streaming platform, Spotify often trips up new users when it comes to registration, device linking, and account switching. This step-by-step guide walks you through these essential operations so you can start enjoying music right away.

Create an Account: Three Quick Ways to Get Started

Open the Spotify website or app and click "Sign Up" to get started. We recommend using your Google account or Apple ID for one-click login, saving you the hassle of entering an email. If you choose to register with an email, you'll need to verify it — check your inbox and click the confirmation link. For your registered region, it's best to select the country or region where you actually reside; otherwise, your payment options and music library might be limited. After filling in the basic information, you can start using the Free plan immediately, and upgrading to Premium can be done anytime from the settings.

Link Your Devices: Sync Across Phone, Computer, and Speakers

Spotify supports linking up to 6 devices simultaneously, but playback is limited to one device at a time. After logging in on the mobile app, go to Settings → Devices to see the list of connected devices. To connect a computer: download the desktop client and either scan a QR code or enter your account credentials. To connect a smart speaker: open Spotify Connect on the speaker, and your phone will automatically detect nearby devices — just tap to connect. If linking fails, check that all devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, or try restarting the app and the device.

Switch Accounts: Multiple Users Sharing One App

Roommates or Family plan users often need to switch accounts. On the mobile app, go to Settings from the home screen, scroll to the bottom, tap "Log Out", and then enter the new account details. Note: On the Free plan, switching accounts will clear your playlists (only locally downloaded content is retained), while the Premium plan seamlessly syncs your library. On the desktop app, the process is similar — click your profile picture at the top right and select "Log Out". If you frequently switch accounts, we recommend using the Family plan, where the main account can manage all members without each person needing to log out individually.
