The well-known AI infrastructure project OpenClaw has recently surpassed 300,000 stars on GitHub, solidifying its status as a key open-source agent framework and reference implementation for the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This milestone has drawn widespread industry attention—and right on its heels, Google officially launched a new project called Spark, widely interpreted as a strategic move in the agent infrastructure race.
According to The New Stack, OpenClaw’s rise reflects the developer community’s strong demand for standardized AI agent protocols. By simplifying interactions between models and tools, the project lowers the barrier to building intelligent agents. Meanwhile, Google’s Spark further intensifies competition in the AI infrastructure layer. Spark appears to target a similar niche as OpenClaw but leverages Google’s cloud muscle and ecosystem reach to offer developers a more production-grade solution.
