After a series of Gemini updates at Google I/O 2026, Google officially announced the "Gemini Built-In" program. This new solution aims to bring Gemini's AI capabilities to third-party devices, including smart speakers and cameras. Google said the program opens up Gemini's most powerful smart home features to developers, such as "Ask Home" and Nest Cam's intelligent scene recognition. This means that in the future, users will be able to experience AI capabilities equivalent to Google Home on devices outside the Nest ecosystem.

Similar to the strategy of the Assistant era, Google offers third-party brands a "turnkey" solution. The solution includes a complete reference design and all components needed to build Gemini hardware. Google specifically emphasized that this year it will focus on cameras and smart speakers — with speakers joining the program for the first time. By providing ready-made hardware and software references, OEMs can quickly integrate Gemini features, reducing development hurdles and accelerating the market adoption of AI-powered smart home devices.

Quick Take: The "Gemini Built-In" program continues Google's open ecosystem strategy, but unlike the previous Assistant, it places a stronger emphasis on deep integration of AI capabilities. For third-party brands, this is a low-risk opportunity to enter the high-end smart home market; for users, it promises a unified smart experience across more devices. However, privacy protection and feature consistency will be key challenges during implementation. Within this year, we can expect to see the first third-party speakers and cameras equipped with Gemini hit the market.
