Spotify Premium Troubleshooting: Fix Common Subscription & Playback Issues

Subscription Payment Failures: Card Issues & Region Restrictions

The most common reason for a failed Spotify Premium payment is that your card doesn't support international transactions or is blocked by your bank's risk control. We recommend using a Visa or Mastercard that supports foreign currency payments, and make sure you have sufficient funds. If you're using a domestic dual-currency card, some banks disable overseas card-not-present transactions by default—you'll need to call customer service to enable it. Also, Spotify determines your region based on your IP address. Using a proxy or VPN can trigger the "Your payment method was declined" error; try switching to your home network or turning off the VPN before paying.

If you see a "Country mismatch" warning, it means your account region doesn't match the issuing country of your payment card. You can try changing your account region to the corresponding country in settings, or use a gift card from that region. Note that switching your account region too often may temporarily lock your account—limit changes to once per quarter.

Playback Interruptions & Audio Quality Issues: Cache & Network Settings

If songs frequently buffer or you get a "Playback error" code, the issue is often related to local cache or DNS resolution. On desktop, go to Settings → Storage and clear offline cache. On mobile, try clearing the app cache (on iOS, you may need to uninstall and reinstall). Changing your router's DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 can also help speed up track loading. If audio quality drops only when using Bluetooth headphones, check whether "Automatic audio quality adjustment" is enabled—stick with "Automatic" mode and ensure a stable network connection for high bitrate streaming.

Sometimes you'll see a "You're offline" notification even when your internet is working fine. This is a false positive from Spotify's offline verification. Manually download a few songs from Your Library, then log out and log back in to restore online status. If the problem persists, set your system time to automatic sync and restart the app.

Account Lockouts & Repeated Login Prompts: Security Policy Errors

If you see "Your account has been temporarily locked" when logging in, it's usually because you entered the wrong password too many times in a short period or logged in from different IPs. Visit Spotify's account recovery page, enter your registered email, and you'll receive an unlock link. If you still get locked out after three attempts, wait 24 hours before trying again—do not keep clicking "Forgot Password" during that time.

If you're stuck in a "Two-factor authentication" loop, it's likely caused by a cached old session in your browser. Try logging in using private browsing mode, or clear the browser's app data. Family plan owners who get a "Max family members reached" message when moving a member need to remove an inactive user first before adding a new one. Remember, each Family plan can only update its address proof once per year—prepare a utility bill or similar document showing the same address in advance for verification.
