In August 2025, developer Peter Steinberger launched a meetup in London called Claude Code Anonymous, gathering techies who share an addiction to AI coding tools. Their focus is Anthropic’s Claude Code (codenamed Opus 4.5)—a model capable of handling more complex programming tasks, featuring stronger memory, running continuously for hours, and managing a set of AI sub-agents. This breakthrough model quickly became the center of attention in the tech world.
Anthropic uses a notoriously difficult hiring exam internally to vet engineers. In a head-to-head comparison with human candidates, Opus 4.5 “scored higher than any human applicant.” The result has sparked deep questions about the future of engineering as a profession: How will AI reshape the career of an engineer? When agents can autonomously execute multi-step tasks, the unit of value shifts from individual reasoning to final outcomes—challenging traditional API billing models and pushing companies to urgently retrain their workforce for AI-driven roles.
