Spotify’s Premium subscription comes in two main tiers: Individual and Family. They differ in price and sharing rules. If you’re torn between the two, this breakdown will help you make a clear choice and save money.
Pricing & Account Rules
The Individual plan costs $10.99 per month for a single account with no sharing allowed. The Family plan is $16.99 per month and supports up to 6 separate accounts, but all members must live at the same address and verify it periodically. Per person, the Family plan is far cheaper—if you fill all 6 slots, each person pays less than $3/month, making it an amazing deal.
Keep in mind: Family doesn’t allow members from different countries or regions. Spotify may check via GPS and IP address. If caught violating the rule, your account could be downgraded to Individual or even canceled. So if you’re splitting the cost, make sure everyone truly lives together.
Core Feature Comparison
Both plans share the same core Premium features: 320kbps audio quality, ad-free listening, offline downloads, and more. The Family plan adds a separate Spotify Kids app designed for children, complete with parental controls—a nice bonus for households with kids. Individual does not include this.
