Anthropic Launches Claude Opus 4.8: Smarter Judgment and Stronger Collaboration

AI company Anthropic recently announced a significant upgrade to its flagship large language model, launching the Claude Opus 4.8 version. According to the company, the new model brings notable improvements in judgment accuracy, self-awareness transparency, and independent work capability, positioning it as a "more efficient collaborator." Early test feedback indicates that Opus 4.8 is more inclined to actively flag uncertainties in its own outputs while significantly reducing the generation of unsupported claims.

On the performance and cost front, Anthropic confirms that Opus 4.8 maintains the same pricing as the previous Opus 4.7. The new model defaults to a "high effort mode," consuming a similar number of tokens for coding tasks as Opus 4.7, but delivering superior output quality and task completion rates. In addition, Anthropic also released three other functional updates on the same day, further enriching the Claude product ecosystem.

Editor's Take: The upgrade direction of Opus 4.8 directly addresses two persistent pain points in large models—hallucination and overconfidence. By enhancing self-correction and honesty, Anthropic is aiming to build a differentiated edge in technical reliability. For developers and enterprise users, gaining a more trustworthy AI assistant without incurring higher costs is a practical and appealing step forward.
