In early 2026, the open-source AI agent framework OpenClaw made waves across the industry with its "unconstrained agent" philosophy, leaving many tech pioneers both intrigued and unsettled. Now, Microsoft has officially launched Scout, a new AI assistant that embeds the power and flexibility of OpenClaw directly into the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. According to Omar Shahine, Vice President of Product at Scout, the assistant is built on the OpenClaw framework—an always-on agentic assistant with a persistent identity and style that actively adapts to each user's individual needs.
Scout comes pre-loaded with a set of skills, including calendar management and meeting agenda drafting. However, Shahine emphasizes that its true value lies in user-created and customized skills. This open-ended design means Scout evolves alongside its users—from simple scheduling to complex cross-app workflows, all triggered through natural language commands. Scout is one of several AI products Microsoft unveiled at Build 2026, alongside the hardware-focused Project Solara, an updated version of Copilot, and a new reasoning-focused AI model, further underscoring Microsoft’s push into productivity AI.
