Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.8 on May 28, only 41 days after its predecessor. The model scored 61.4 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, surpassing GPT-5.5's 60.2 and retaking the lead. Pricing remains unchanged: $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, covering API, claude.ai, and Claude Code.

The key upgrade is Dynamic Workflows—a tool that lets Claude autonomously plan large tasks, break them down into dozens or hundreds of parallel sub-agents, verify the outputs, and return the final result. This architectural shift significantly improves collaboration efficiency on complex tasks. The model also achieves a 4x improvement in honesty, more accurately expressing its own uncertainty. For teams that need speed, Fast Mode pricing has been cut to one-third of the original rate.

On coding benchmarks, Opus 4.8 leads GPT-5.5 by 10.6 percentage points on SWE-Bench Pro, but still trails on Terminal-Bench 2.1. The overall intelligence gap between the two is just 1.2 points, making it a tight race.

Comment: Dynamic Workflows mark a meaningful shift from single-model reasoning to multi-agent collaboration. Opus 4.8's dual breakthroughs in engineering and transparency could push enterprise AI adoption to the next level, but GPT-5.5's lightweight advantage in terminal-based coding scenarios remains noteworthy.
