June 2, 1997 — A U.S. federal jury convicted Timothy McVeigh of murder for the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The attack, which killed 168 people and injured hundreds, was at the time the deadliest act of domestic terrorism on American soil.

McVeigh was ultimately sentenced to death and executed by lethal injection on June 11, 2001. His co-conspirator, Terry Nichols, was tried separately and received a life sentence. The case prompted major reforms in U.S. counterterrorism legislation and intelligence-sharing protocols within the FBI, and it sparked long-term discussions on the roots of extremist ideology.

From a technology and security perspective, the McVeigh case highlights how extremist content can spread in the digital age. How modern AI and social media algorithms manage the dissemination of similar radical material remains a critical challenge in public safety.
