OpenAI recently announced that it is expanding the availability of its advanced security tool, Lockdown Mode, to all personal ChatGPT accounts and self-serve ChatGPT Business accounts. Previously, this feature was only accessible to enterprise executives and security teams with strict security requirements, designed to provide the most comprehensive attack protection. Now, personal users on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans, along with self-serve Business accounts, can enable Lockdown Mode via the "Security" option in ChatGPT settings.
Once Lockdown Mode is activated, ChatGPT restricts or disables certain functions that interact with the internet and external services. According to OpenAI’s official documentation, disabled services include—but are not limited to—web browsing, plugin calls, and external data connections, thereby minimizing potential security risks. This move gives everyday users access to protection levels previously reserved for enterprise-grade deployments.
